9:00 a.m. – Emergency Management of Critical Events in Anesthesia and Critical Care presented by Sass Elisha Ed. D, APRN, CRNA, FAANA, FAAN and Jeremy Heiner Ed. D., MSN, CRNA, FAANA (pending 1 CE)

Session Description: Describe an objective process for the identification and management of different anesthesia crises and practice immersive methods that simulate real-world experiences that help providers use evidence-based guidelines to effectively treat these specific crises.


10:00a.m. – Review and Update of Diagnosis and Treatment of Malignant Hyperthermia presented by Sass Elisha Ed. D, APRN, CRNA, FAANA, FAAN and Jeremy Heiner Ed. D., MSN, CRNA, FAANA (pending 1 CE)

Session Description: Review the physiologic and pathophysiologic mechanisms that predispose patients to developing MH. Provide updated information about the treatment of MH while utilizing a crises management checklist.

Session Description: Review the NBCRNA CPCA guidelines that focus on the four individual domains by discussing questions related to each and providing rationales for the various topics.

1:00 p.m. – “Cric It While It’s Hot!” Practicing and Performing Current Adult Circothyrotomy presented by Sass Elisha Ed. D, APRN, CRNA, FAANA, FAAN and Jeremy Heiner Ed. D., MSN, CRNA, FAANA (pending 1 CE)

Session Description: This presentation will review the indication of cricothyrotomy, identify the appropriate anatomy for performing a cricothyrotomy and discuss the various techniques required for successfully completing a cricothyrotomy procedure.


2:00 p.m. – Airway Skills Lab presented by Sass Elisha Ed. D, APRN, CRNA, FAANA, FAAN and Jeremy Heiner Ed. D., MSN, CRNA, FAANA (pending 1 CE)

Session Description: In this session we will integrate the academic learning principles into hands on practice using advanced airway techniques on stand alone simulators and anatomical accurate tracheas by practicing the various cricothyrotomy techniques.

Sass Elisha is the Assistant Director at Kaiser Permanente School of Anesthesia. He is the co-editor and author of, “Nurse Anesthesia“, “Case Studies in Nurse Anesthesia“, “Current Anesthesia Practice“, and “Emergency Management in Anesthesia and Critical Care.” Sass is an administrator, educator, and clinician in southern California



Jeremy Heiner

Jeremy Heiner is a practicing CRNA and an academic and clinical educator. One of his greatest passions is teaching airway management for all clinical situations. He currently authors the “Airway Management” chapter in the textbook “Nurse Anesthesia” and is one of the lead educators for the AANA Airway Skills Lab.

He is a co-editor and author of “Nurse Anesthesia”, “Emergency Management in Anesthesia & Critical Care”, and “Current Anesthesia Practice”. He also recently started a podcast called “The Nurse Anesthesia Podcast” where he and his colleagues talk about all types of anesthesia concepts and pharmacology.
